It was banned in Pakistan as the subject was considered taboo. Central Board of Film Censors denied to give the No-Objection Certificate to the film and said, "we cannot allow a film whose name, subject and story are not acceptable in our society." They did not allow the Pakistani film distributors to purchase the film rights and gave the following statement "The film is ruining Islamic traditions, history, and culture." Film posters were removed from cinema hall. Few Pakistani women protested this decision by sending pictures while holding sanitary pads to the Pakistani censor board.

The first trailer was released on 15 December 2017. The trailer began trending on Twitter with the hashtag #PadManTrailer. Akshay Kumar casually trying to wear a sanitary napkin and the other handing them to his sister started to trend. Another poster was released on 25 December which shows Kumar holding cotton in his hand with words like "Fighter, Genius, Innovation, Unreal Man, No Shame, Real Problem, and Passion". It was called a "unique poster" by Times Of India.

Padman went on to be screened at Oxford, which became the first Indian film to be showcased at the prestigious university. The film is based on Twinkle Khanna book and she also happens to be the producer. She was invited to the Oxford Union as a speaker and she shared the great news on her social media handles.
