The movie revolved around a girl who had Tourette`s syndrome named Naina Mathur. After several interviews and numerous rejections, she finally gets a job as a teacher. She soon strives to do as much as she can to make her defiant and troublemaking students perceive their full potential.

Hichki director Siddharth P Malhotra denied the allegations of stealing credit made by novelist Nishant Kaushik against producer Yash Raj Films. Kaushik declared that Malhotra had approached him in March 2015 with a one-line brief that was developed into a story over a month.
The movie found itself in a pit of controversies as soon as the trailer was out because the film was similar to the Hollywood film, Front Of The Class.
