5 INTERESTING UNKNOWN FACTS:
In 2017, her autobiography titled ‘The Hit Girl’ (co-written by Khalid Mohammed) was released by Salman Khan.
Her idol is Vyjayanthimala, and they shared a dance number and a comedy scene in the hit film Aasha (1957). Two years later, Asha became a heroine with the hit film Dil Deke Dekho (1959), but still, she continued to be in awe of Vyjayanthimala, even sneaking onto the Amrapali (1966) set to watch her. She played a Vyjayanthimala fan in the film Jawan Muhabat (1971). In real life, the two stars would occasionally have lunch together. In 2016, almost 60 years since they first worked together, Vyjayanthimala remembered Asha as "a very nice girl".
She is an ardent follower of Sai Baba.
At a stage function, Bimal Roy saw her dance and cast her at the age of twelve in the 1954 film ‘Baap Beti.’
From 1994 to 2000, she remained President of the Cine Artists’ Association.
5 FAMOUS QUOTES:
Nobody can gauge the public`s mind. I can say this from my experience. I backed and distributed a film called Rakhi Aur Hathkadi (1972) thinking it will be a big success but it could not last even five days at the box office.
When asked if she missed having a family of her own: "There was a time when I did. Now, when I see so many marriages on the rocks, I feel I`m better off unmarried. So many couples are together because they have no choice."
When asked if there was a special man in her life: "Of course there was. I`m a normal woman. I may be a nice maiden. But I`m certainly no ice maiden."
I share my birthday with that other far, far greater Gujarati, Mahatma Gandhi. But unlike him, I was anything but a peace ambassador. Whenever I entered the studio everyone would run for cover.
Her respect for non-Indian films: "At least they are focused, compact and have emotions. No dhishum dhishum or five songs just to move the negligible storyline. . .I wish [Indian] films today were not copies of foreign film. There are good Hindustani topics to pick from."
5 MOST POPULAR DIALOGUES:
Kavita se mann ko behlaya ja sakta hai ... samjhaya nahi ja sakta
Agar sharaab dukhon ko mitta sakti ... toh har aadmi sharaabi ban jata
Aandhi mein udhte hue patte ko kya malum ... usse kahan se kahan bhatakna hoga
Shehar mein rehkar, nayi roshni mein palkar ... hamara libaas badal sakta hai ... hamari sabhyata toh nahi
Yahi hai zindagi apni, yahi hai bandagi apni ... ki unka naam aaya aur gardan jhuk gayi apni ... na bhut khane ko jaate hai, na kaabe mein bhatakte hai ... jahan tum paon rakhte ho, vahan hum sar patakte hai ... hum ishq ke maaron ka itna hi fasana hai ... rone ko nahi koi, hasne ko zamana hai
During her tenure as the President of the Cine Artists` Association, she was criticized for censoring films; especially not giving clearance to Shekhar Kapur`s Elizabeth.
