Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was one of the shining lights of Pakistan, a Qawwali Shahehshah whose talent was heralded both locally and globally. To celebrate the legend that still lives 19 years on, Coke Studio presents
Afreen Afreen, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Momina Mustehsan, Episode 2, Coke Studio 9
Music Directed by Faakhir Mehmood
Produced by Strings
The beautifully crafted ‘Afreen Afreen’ sung two decades ago by the legendry, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan still holds the strength to serenade the audience with its poetic and soothing sensibilities. The reformation of the track on Coke Studio – arranged by Faakhir Mehmood and performed by maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and debutant, Momina Mustehsan – transforms the Qawwali seamlessly into an unplugged track. Within the genre, the atmosphere of the song remains ambient and acoustic, as the bare minimum elements give room to Rahat’s majestic vocals to improvise the mastery he possesses. Momina enters the song as she punctuates the additional melody with her laid-back effortless velvety vocals. Towards the end, the track is perfectly complimented with the incredible drum roll and a hyper groove as the traditional ‘Afreen Afreen’ chants are delivered with heartfelt emotion and melodic panache.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (born 1974), is a Pakistani musician, primarily of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Muslim Sufis. He is the nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and also the grandson of Qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan.In addition to Qawwali, he also performs ghazals and other light music. He is also popular as a playback singer in Bollywood and the Pakistan film industry.
Rahat has appeared in three seasons of Pakistani musical show Coke Studio. He first appeared in season 1, where he collaborated with singer Ali Azmat for the track "Garaj Baras". He then collaborated with Abida Parveen in season 6. He then also appeared in season 9, where he generated the song "Afreen Afreen" along with Momina Mustehsan, then he sang "Rang" along with Amjad Sabri. This was one of the last performances of Sabri, who was assassinated in Karachi on 22 June 2016.
Momina Mustehsan is a Pakistani singer-songwriter. She rose to prominence as a co-singer and writer in Farhan Saeed`s single "Pee Jaun" and recorded her first studio song "Sajna" for Junoon`s album Junoon 20.
Mustehsan`s claim to fame came later, when in 2016 she marked her Coke Studio debut as a featured artist in season 9 where she performed a rendition of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan`s "Afreen Afreen", with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and received critical appraisal. Following her debut, she became one of the most sought-out media personalities in Pakistan and the song became one of the most viewed songs of Coke Studio.

In February 2017, she released the anthem for the Pakistan Super League franchise Islamabad United. Leading media outlets, The Express Tribune and Geo News criticized the heavy use of auto-tune and the lack of substance in the single, titled "Cricket Jorrey Pakistan" (Cricket Unites Pakistan).
"Afreen Afreen" (English: Praise to her Creator! Praise to her Creator!) is a qawwali song written by Javed Akhtar and composed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.Afreen Afreen was released during the IndiPop and Fusion music wave of the mid-1990`s as a non-film music video. The music video featured Lisa Ray.It was later rendered by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with Momina Mustehsan, during season 9 episode 2 of Pakistani musical TV show Coke Studio.
