Yuvraj Vijay Singh (Salman Khan) a Prince of Pritampur, is destined to be crowned as king and is engaged to princess Maithili (Sonam Kapoor), yet because of his stubborn nature, Vijay faces numerous issues with Maithali as well as his brother and sisters. His stepsisters Rajkumari Chandrika (Swara Bhaskar) and Rajkumari Radhika (Aashika Bhatia) live in a different house outside, while his sibling Yuvraj Ajay Singh (Neil Nitin Mukesh) wants to execute him and take the Crown with the assistance of his manager Chirag Singh (Armaan Kohli), who is misguiding Ajay at each step.
They plan an attack on Yuvraj Vijay, which Vijay survives yet gets severely harmed. In the meantime, Vijay`s look alike Prem Dilwale (Salman Khan) an ecstatic stage actor who begins to look all starry eyed at princess Maithili, reaches Pritampur to meet her along with his companion Kanhaiya (Deepak Dobriyal). There he meets the royal guard and they take him to play the role of the prince to keep the kingdom in a dark about Vijay’s whereabouts. The story takes a twist as Yuvraj Ajay and Chirag kidnaps the real Vijay. Chirag chooses to deceive Ajay, as he frees Vijay and provokes him against Ajay and Prem.
After fighting with Vijay, Ajay laments his deeds, while Vijay reunites with his family. Maithili is stunned to know the reality about Prem and understands that she adores Prem not Vijay, while Prem comes back to his home. The royal family reaches Prem`s home to reunite Prem and Maithili.
