Richa Chadda, Vicky Kaushal, Sanjay Mishra and Shweta Tripathy starrer Masaan is an Indian drama film. Devi Pathak (Richa Chadda) and Piyush Aggarwal plan and meet at a hotel for intimacy but the situation turns ugly when the owners of the hotel tip the police of the same. As the police barge in, Piyush locks himself up in the bathroom and slices his wrists. Devi, on the other hand, is harassed by the police as he clicks explicit pictures of her which leads to her quitting the job. The inspector later blackmails Devi and her father to pay up. Devi’s old father tries to earn extra through betting on little boys who jump into the river and retrieve coins. He engages a little boy who works for him to do the job. In a parallel story Deepak Kumar, a young guy from a lower caste pursues his engineering as his family earns their livelihood by burning bodies in Varanasi ghat. He meets Shaalu Gupta, a girl from upper caste who is determined to marry Deepak irrespective of his background. They end up imagining a life together which comes crashing down when Shaalu dies in a tragic accident. Both Devi and Deepak end up losing their partners and cross paths in a crossroad.
