The month of June seems to have come with loads of excitement for Bollywood fans. Among the most famous upcoming Bollywood releases, 4 films are releasing next Friday, that is, June 01 itself. While this is not the first time Bollywood has seen multiple releases in the same weekend, seldom do we get to see such a large variety of films releasing on the same day. No wonder the fans are eagerly waiting for May to end and June to come.

Risks in Bollywood

Bollywood seems to have opened up to a variety of contents these days. Despite being majorly star-driven, a good script and a raw angle to stories are what works for the audience. That is why many Bollywood films are making a shift from the kind of movies Bollywood is famous for. The audience has also become more receptive towards good content and better screenplay than a mere copy-pasting job.

What to Watch?

So, if you are planning to enjoy your weekend with friends and family, we are pleased to let you know that there are plenty of options coming out on June 1. The question now arises - “Which one should you opt for?”

We are gonna help you make that choice easier. Here is all the information you need to know about the upcoming releases of June 1.

Veere Di Wedding

Cast - Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania

Director - Shashanka Ghosh

Produced by Rhea Kapoor (Sonam’s sister), Nikhil Dwivedi, Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the film is a coming-of-age story revolving around the lives of 4 childhood friends - Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor), Avni (Sonam Kapoor), Meera (Shikha Talsania) and Sakshi (Swara Bhaskar) who reunite after a decade and discover how societal perceptions and the pressure to get married has made them suffocate. They all get together to celebrate their Veere Kalindi’s wedding which turns out to be a sour experience as the family wishes to have a loud Punjabi wedding against the wishes of Kalindi. Each of these 4 friends has their own issues, ranging from divorce to single motherhood and break-ups. What unites these four friends in the face of sexist society and double standards is the crux of the film.

Bollywood hardly ever produced any film depicting female friendships. While most films portray the entry of a woman as a bane for the boys, Veere Di Wedding promises you to portray the lives and language of women as it is in real life. The trailer shows ample swearing among friends as they sit for a drink. That might have been controversial for a patriarchal society, but the cast and the makers know that they are keeping a reality check. This is how people, men or women, behave and talk in real life.

So, if you are dying to see a film portraying women as they really are - normal human beings with mind and emotions of their own - Veere Di Wedding is your film.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero

Cast - Harshvardhan Kapoor, Radhika Apte

Director - Vikramaditya Motwane

Yes, you are gonna see a clash of films of two siblings on June 1. Produced by Phantom Films, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is an action film chronicling the lives of a group of friends who do not accept status quo and continue to fight against it. You might have seen Arjun Kapoor in one of the songs called ‘ Chavanprash’ which is an item song. The film was delayed for a long time since its announcement in 2014. Many actors were considered for the role, including Imran Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, finally landing in Harshvardhan Kapoor’s lap. This will be his second film.

The film is ideal for action lovers. And if you are someone who is a fan of martial arts, then this film is for you. Vikramaditya Motwane has been known for his films like Lootera which earned critical acclaim. If you wish to see how ordinary people become superheroes with their deeds, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is your film to see.

Phamous

Cast - Jimmy Sheirgill, Jackie Shroff, Kay Kay, Pankaj Tripathi, Shriya Saran, Mahie Gill

Director - Karan Lalit Butani

You must have heard about the exploits of the famous dacoits of Chambal. Already, there have been films made on two of the dacoits from the region - Bandit Queen based on Phoolan Devi and Paan Singh Tomar. The film is a romantic story set against the backdrop of crime drama. The story revolves around the 4 male dacoits and the power struggle that ensues between them with love, lust, power, and justice symbolizing their characters.

Well, the film is not for the faint-hearted as it depicts what really happens in the rural areas hit by crime and ruled by crime lords. If you are in need of a thrilling ride across the interior regions of India and the struggles they face in a lawless environment, Phamous is yours to watch.

3 Dev

Cast - Kay Kay Menon, Karan Singh Grover, Ravi Dubey, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Tisca Chopra, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Raima Sen, Priya Banerjee

Director - Ankush Bhatt

We have seen movies exposing the hypocrisy of religion. OMG and PK did a brilliant job in that. However, this film adds slices of comedy to it. The film talks about 3 friends who are looking for a place to stay. They find a room in the house of a couple. While the landlord is an escapist in matters of religion, the wife is a devotee. She and the entire village begin considering them Gods because of their names - Brahma (Ravi Dubey), Vishnu (Karan Singh Grover) and Shiv (Kunaal Roy Kapoor), representing the Holy Trinity in Hinduism. What happens when they begin to consider themselves as real Gods? That is what the film is all about.

OMG and PK were hilarious comedies. And 3 Dev promises to be nothing short of that. With Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee who plays a Professor hell-bent on exposing the three guys, you might have a good time watching the antics and see just how easy it is to dupe people in the name of religion.

So, are you eagerly waiting for June 1 like we are? Choose your pick from the above 4 Bollywood releases and have a great June 2018.
