Sridevi’s untimely demise has added another name to the list of actors who left us way too soon. Their deaths have been shocking and heartbreaking, but also equally sudden and unsuspected. Who knew a family wedding would turn out to bring mourning for the family? While news of their favorite celebrities passing away usually brings a lot of grief, it`s the ones who leave us before their time who hurt the most!
We take a look at few such actors who were gone too soon –
Divya Bharti –
The 90s diva was not even 20 when she passed away. Her death has been shrouded in mystery ever since. Divya Bharti fell down from the balcony of the 5th-floor apartment in Mumbai in 1993. Various theories about her tragic death have been doing the rounds ever since. From blaming her husband Sajid Nadiadwala for his underworld links to alcohol, drug overdose, and suicide, fans have been hearing so much of it for more than 20 years. She had numerous films in the pipeline and at the time of her death, she was shooting for Laadla opposite Anil Kapoor, a role which, ironically, went to Sridevi after Bharti’s demise.
Jiah Khan –
The 25-year-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling in her Juhu flat in 2013. What was initially called suicide was, post her mother Rabia Khan’s statement, turned into a thorough investigation. Her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested for abetment to suicide after a 6-page letter was found allegedly written by Jiah where she accused Sooraj Pancholi of abusing her. The case is still under investigation.
Smita Patil –
The dusky beauty was one of the foremost icons of her time in the film industry. Her acting prowess was legendary and her performance in films like Bazaar proved her mettle. She died tragically during the birth of her son Prateik Babbar. Her sudden demise cast a pall of gloom over the industry and her fans at large. She was just 31 then.
Aadesh Srivastava –
Hailed as one of the finest music composers, 51-year-old Aadesh Srivastava was suffering from cancer. He was also a singer who lent his voice to innumerable hits like “Mora Piya” from Rajneeti. His compositions for movies like Baghban, Babul, Chalte Chalte are still remembered by his fans after his death.
Rituparno Ghosh –
The 49-year-old filmmaker was the recipient of National Awards as well as Filmfare Awards for his films like Chokher Bali and more. His sudden death due to cardiac arrest left the entire film fraternity in shock and sorrow.
Jaspal Bhatti –
The Punjabi comedian’s performance was legendary on the small screen. The iconic TV show Flop Show is regarded as a timeless classic because of his satirical humor and sarcasm at its best. He was also the creator of the show. Jaspal Bhatti died in a car crash in 2012 at the age of 57.
Laxmikant Berde –
The iconic comedian whom we saw in many of our most loved 90s movies including Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Maine Pyaar Kiya and more, left for his heavenly abode at the age of 50 because of a kidney ailment. His slapstick performances added the much-needed breather to many of these timeless classics. He has also been titled the “Comedy King” of Marathi cinema.
Jatin Kanakia –
Known for his iconic performance in the superhit 90s TV show Shrimaan Shrimati, Jatin Kanakia is entrenched into the minds of his contemporaries for his superb comic timing and performances in other cult TV shows. His life was cut short after he succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 1999 at the age of 47. Reports say that the actor maintained his professionalism and continued to work even after his diagnosis.
Reema Lagoo –
Her death came as a big shock since she had been working the entire day for her TV show Naamkaran. Reema Lagoo was famous for her character roles in innumerable films opposite megastars and big banners. She died at the age of 58 in Mumbai after a massive cardiac arrest.
Pratyusha Banerjee –
She had attained stardom after playing the adult role of Anandi in Balika Vadhu. Her suicide came as a shock to everyone associated with her. Though an investigation was conducted and fingers pointed at her boyfriend Rahul Raj for subjecting her to abuse, the case went nowhere. Pratyusha was just 24.
These phenomenal actors might have left us early. But their body of work has kept them alive to this day.
