There are actors who inspire, actors who make themselves heard through their work. And then, there are some feisty yet method actresses who take everything several notches higher with their work. One such is desi girl, former Miss World Priyanka Chopra. Her movies and her magic have worked their charm many times for more than a decade now.

And then we see her spreading her magic all over the world with her international work as TV actor in ABC’s Quantico. Her appearance in multitudes of talk shows and the royal wedding have put her in the eyes of many out there. Priyanka Chopra is, without doubt, one of the most successful people we have in the industry. And we simply can’t get enough of her.

We take a look at her top 5 Bollywood movies which make her one of the best talents in the industry. Every role is distinct from the other and shows her mettle as an actress. Awards or no awards, PC rocks in everything!

Aitraaz

Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the film revolves around sexual harassment. Priyanka Chopra, a newbie at the time, took up the role of Sonia Roy, the rich and power-hungry wife of Amrish Puri who keeps trying to rekindle her relationship with her junior at work. Her performance earned her countless awards for her fiery portrayal of a seductress and she earned critical acclaim for the same. It was a big risk that she took! How many newcomers would take up a negative role, and that too in a second lead? She troubled poor Akshay Kumar so much that the audience would get angry on her. Now, that’s powerful acting!!

Fashion

Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, the film was a huge commercial hit and gave Priyanka a breather from a string of flops at the box office. Her performances as Meghna, a small town girl who aspires to be a model but gets lost in the bizarre world of fashion, was critically appreciated. This was a slap on the face of all those people who claimed she was “all face but no substance.” Priyanka Chopra won a National Award for the film and since then, her career has been moving upwards only. That’s how you shut the trolls up!!

7 Khoon Maaf

Playing such a femme fatale is no mean feat. But, PeeCee can do all of it and so much more. Based on one of Ruskin Bond’s short stories ‘Susanna`s Seven Husbands’, she plays the role of an Anglo-Indian woman Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes who seeks true love but ends up murdering all her husbands one by one. Of course, all of them were cruel to her and hence, she slips into a Madea-like catastrophe, hell-bent on taking revenge on her wrong-doers. The film has actors like Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham, Annu Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Neil Nitin Mukesh playing the role of her husbands. But Priyanka outshines them all. Though the film opened to mixed reviews, Priyanka won Filmfare Best Actress (Critics) for her performance.

Barfi

You can’t miss this film when you are talking about Priyanka’s best performances. Anurag Basu had Priyanka in mind all along for the role of Jhilmil, an autistic girl who falls for Barfi in the film. Her performance won her enormous critical reviews and she was widely appreciated for portraying the vulnerabilities and sensitivity of her role. Although she was not happy with the fact that she did not win the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, Barfi did come across as one of her finest films.

Mary Kom

The film was based on the life and journey of Olympic medal winner Boxer Mary Kom from Manipur from a life of hardship to superstardom. Priyanka Chopra underwent extensive training in order to learn the nuances of boxing and also built a more muscular physique. Priyanka has beautifully absorbed the character and personality of Mary Kom and consequently depicts different aspects of her life including motherhood and her boxing career with equal élan. Her performance won her several awards including a Best Actress Filmfare Award. Do you know PC also debuted as a singer with a lullaby in the film? The song is known as “Chaoro”. Well, well, singing is in her genes, after all.

Kaminey

This Vishal Bhardwaj film was ahead of its time and Priyanka was a darling in the film with her ex-flame Shahid Kapoor. The story revolves around the rivalry between a pair of twins - each with their own dysfunctionalities, stutter, and a lisp - when they encounter the underworld. Priyanka plays Sweety, lover of one of the twins who fakes a stutter to make him feel better. Sweety is brash, unapologetic and doesn’t mind fighting off goons to protect her man and help him deal with the mess when her brother begins to violently protest against her marriage to Guddu. But, did you know she had earlier refused saying it was a boys’ only film and she had nothing much to do in just eight minutes?? She was persuaded by Vishal Bhardwaj who convinced her to take the role. He was right about her, of course.

Bajirao Mastani

The film released soon after her launch in Hollywood with Quantico. Even though she was the second lead in this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, she made her mark with her performance as Kashibai, portraying her vulnerability perfectly. The myriad emotions that Kashibai goes through has been so perfectly portrayed by Priyanka that you probably can’t think of anybody else for the role. Maybe, that is why she was the first to be cast in the film. And to think that Priyanka is not that way in real life at all! Now, well, that is truly incredible!

All hail the queen! Hope she continues to give us more of these in the days to come!
