Despite the courts giving a clean chit to the period love story, controversies seem to be not leaving the film’s side. From dance to dialogues and the war sequences, there’s a lot that a section of the people are not happy about.

With controversies erupting against the film despite the disclaimer stating it is a work of fiction, Bajirao Mastani works very well for the typical Sanjay Leela Bhansali grandiose. The fact that most viewers have no idea of Maratha history will hardly make up for the historical falsities.

Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra dancing together seem more like a rip-off from Devdas’s Dola Re Dola. Though the song is facing backlash too for the costumes, the dates of the battle scene where Mastani meets Bajirao shows an East India Company ships too. The British had racked up India years after Bajirao’s death. However, that seems to have little effect. Similarly, Bangash, the Islamic ruler whose throat Bajirao slits, had actually died at the age of 78, years after Bajirao’s demise.

Despite the inaccuracies, the performance of the actors seems to make up for it since they provide mass entertainment and pull viewers to the theatres.
