The Bollywood fraternity is in a state of utter disbelief and sorrow. The demise of Sridevi at the age of 54 has shocked the country. The acting legend was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew. She is survived by husband Boney Kapoor and her two daughters Khushi and Jhanvi Kapoor. 

The acting legend has left behind a glorious legacy with a career spanning more than two decades. Sridevi started her career in ‘Thunaivan’ at a tender age of four and continued thereon as a child artist in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada movies. She starred in many South Indian movies and garnered a superstar status. The phenomenal actress was the first to break the ice to debut in Bollywood films after establishing herself in South Indian film industries. 

Although she made her B-town debut in the 1975 hit ‘Julie’, she grabbed her first adult role in the film ‘Solva Sawan’ in 1979 at the age of 16. Since then Sridevi hasn’t looked back. She has starred in numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful flicks which gained her an immense popularity all over the country. Her free-flowing acting chops with a flawless comic timing coupled with her graceful and elegant dancing skills were widely appreciated.

Chandni (1989)

The ever-beautiful actress played the title role in this Yash Chopra romantic saga. Her acting was at par which made the film emerge as the biggest blockbuster of that year. The beauty and innocence of Sridevi are celebrated through the film.
Sadma (1983)

Sridevi portraying the role of a modern girl who meets with an accident which leaves her memory limited to that of a seven-year-old kid was far beyond excellence. The laudable effort of the actress even overshadowed Kamal Hassan’s character.
Himmatwala (1983)

The epitome of dancing, Sridevi, made the audience go gaga for her performance in this musical-drama. ‘Naino Mein Sapna’ will always be regarded as Bollywood’s best dance performance.
Chaalbaaz (1989)

The portrayal of two very distinct roles in the same movie enchanted the viewers and showcased her extraordinary acting skills. She played the role of Anju, a street-smart and extrovert girl who shouldn’t be messed with and the role of Manju, an introvert and timid girl who is afraid to speak in front of others. It was one of the finest performances of the versatile actress.
English Vinglish (2012)

Sridevi delivered a magnificent performance in her comeback movie and won the heart of the viewers. She played the role of a typical Indian house-maker who learns the English language to gain the respect she deserves from her family.
Mom (2017)

In this thriller, Sridevi plays the role of a mother who strategizes various tricks and sets out to avenge her daughter who is raped. The film marked Sridevi’s 300th movie and also her last performance as the leading lady. The film received positive reviews for Sridevi’s performance.
