Shreya Ghoshal is often referred to as one of the iconic playback singers in the Indian film industry. Shreya Ghoshal’s songs are quite popular which are coupled with her warming and soothing voice. She has received numerous awards and recognition – four National Awards, six Filmfare Awards naming a few.
Shreya Ghoshal’s Personal Details and Early Life
The singer was born in Baharampur in West Bengal but spent her childhood in Rawatbhata in Rajasthan. She began her learning in music at a tender age of four and aspired to be a singer from the very beginning. She has been trained in classical music by renowned maestro Late Kalyanji Bhai and Late Mukta Bhide. Before entering into Bollywood Shreya recorded many Marathi, Bengali, and devotional songs. Shreya got married to her childhood friend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya on 5th February 2015 after dating him for more than a decade.
Shreya’s Bollywood Debut
Participating and winning Sa Re Ga Ma Pa was the turning point in Shreya Ghoshal’s career. Her incredible performance in the show caught the attention of eminent director and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In 2000, Bhansali gave the very first opportunity to Shreya to render her innocent voice to sing multiple songs for the period drama film ‘Devdas’. The songs were an instant hit nationwide and garnered her many laurels including the National Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Since then there’s no turning back for the versatile singer. She has sung many songs some of which went on to become most popular track ever.
Work in South Film Industry
Shreya Ghoshal has given her voice to various South films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. She collaborated with the famous A.R. Rahman and achieved success for singing ‘Munbe Vaa’ which won her Tamil Nadu State Film Award.
