Sanjay Dutt’s life is all set to be unfolded on the big screen in ace director Rajkumar Hirani’s movie ‘Sanju’. Almost 20 years of the 59 years old lanky actor will be depicted in 2 hours by the Ranbir Kapoor. He has managed to completely adopt Dutt’s mannerisms, his tread and his looks but will that be enough to satisfy both their fans and the Bollywood audience? Will this movie change everyone’s perception of Sanjay Dutt as a person? These are some of those questions which can only be answered once the film releases in theatres this Friday.
However, before that, we decide to decode Ranbir Kapoor’s five different avatars as Sanjay Dutt.
This stage showcases Sanjay Dutt beginning his career in Bollywood when he won millions of hearts with his debut movie ‘Rocky’. However, the 80’s wasn’t all about his debut in cinema, this was also the time when he became a drug addict. The death of legendary Bollywood actress and Sanjay Dutt’s mother, Nargis Dutt started the onset of drugs in young Sanju’s life. When he realized about his addiction and in order to get rid of it, he decided to join a rehabilitation centre in Texas, USA.
Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned for illegal possession of arms and was accused of accepting delivery of weapons and explosives from gangsters who were implicated in the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993. This was the period when he was considered a terrorist by the whole country. However, he was released from jail in 1995.
The 90’s had some of the most dramatic ups and downs for the star. He had some of the biggest hits of the time with movies like ‘Daag’, ‘Vaastav’, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ but the dark side refused to let go of him and he ended up going to jail again. The 2000’s was a life-changing time frame for him. He won a Filmfare and a Star Screen award for his performance in the film ‘Vaastav’ and was cast in hit movies ‘Baaghi’, ‘Chal Mere Bhai’, ‘Mission Kashmir’ and ‘Raju Chacha’. He climbed the ladder to success with high speed and there was no one to stop him.
This was the phase of his life when he gained immense popularity for his role as ‘Munna Bhai’. He also swept some of the awards that year as the best Comedian for the movie. This was also the time when he thought to enter into politics and even got a ticket for the Samajwadi Party. However, later Supreme Court canceled his candidature as he was involved in the Mumbai blasts. In July 2007, he was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. After which he married Maanayata in the year 2008, but destiny had some other plans for them. In the year 2013, the actor surrendered, for illegal possession of weapons in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts, before a special court in Mumbai that tried cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. This was an end to the 23-year old trial and he was sent to 5 years in prison.
It was back on 25th Feb 2016 when Dutt stepped out of jail as a changed and free man with no legal baggage. He became a man who had seen it all and had decided to start a fresh life with his family. He was released a few days early on the grounds of ‘good conduct’ and after which he had new projects in his kitty.
Sanjay Dutt will be next seen in upcoming movies ‘Kalank’ and ‘Panipat’ and we all cannot just wait to see him on the big screen again. But for now, Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor fans are excitedly waiting to see Ranbir play ‘Sanju Baba’ who is killing the look with perfection.
