Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan has outperformed Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s films in China grossing Rs 14.6 Crores at the box office. The film had a bumper opening of Rs 18 Crores which is more than the lifetime earnings of Aamir Khan’s movie 3 idiots. However, it is yet to beat the earnings of Dangal and Secret Superstar which garnered earth-shattering records.

Eros International tweeted yesterday, “Eros International & SKF’s #BajrangiBhaijaan soars at the Chinese Box office with very positive reviews & an opening day collection of $2.8 million!@BeingSalmanKhan @erosnow @kabirkhankk @SKFilmsOfficial #BajrangiBhaijaaninChina.”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, too, tweeted, “Salman Khan’s first release in China – #BajrangiBhaijaan – commences its innings with HEALTHY numbers… Debuts at No 7 at China BO… Fri $ 2.24 million [₹ 14.61 cr]… The start can be considered IMPRESSIVE since there were 5 new films, besides #BB, debuting in Top 10 charts…” Bajrangi Bhaijaan also was a blockbuster in India grossing more than Rs 300 Crores at the Box Office when it released in 2015.

Off late, many blockbuster Bollywood films have done exceptionally well at the Chinese box office. Aamir Khan, in particular, has tasted superb success in China with his films 3 Idiots, PK, Dangal and Secret superstar achieving phenomenal success. Dangal grossed around Rs 72 Crores in the first 3 days of its release. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is the fourth highest grossing Bollywood film in China after Dangal, Secret Superstar, and PK. It is also the first Salman Khan film to have entered the Rs 200 Crore club overseas.

A story depicting severed ties between India and Pakistan, the film had touched the hearts of millions with its humanistic portrayal of a relationship between a Pakistani child, played by Harshaali Malhotra, who gets lost in India while on a religious trip with her family. Salman plays the role of a simpleton who takes care of her and then sets out to take her back to her family in Pakistan.
