Censor Board Chairman Prasoon Joshi clarified that there are no cuts but only modifications.

The filmmakers - the producers and the director of the film - are reported to have agreed to the changes suggested by the board.Padmavati, based on Jayasi’s poem ‘Padmavat’ has been in the eye of controversy since its announcement. Previously, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had been slapped during his shoot. The film’s release has been postponed owing to lack of issuance of certificate in the wake of vehement protests from groups such as Karni Sena and even some Islamic outfits.

The censor board said it wanted the disclaimer to clearly state that the film does not claim historical accuracy. It also strongly recommended modifications of misleading references to historical places and incorporate a second disclaimer saying that film does not subscribe to the practice of Sati or seek to glorify it.

Since Muhammad Jayasi’s Padmavat is the primary reference for the filmmakers, says Prasoon Joshi, the name change suggestion is completely justified. Additionally, the now famous ‘Ghoomar’ song picturised on DeepikaPadukone and choreographed on Rajasthani folk dance requires modifications.

This is SLB’s biggest film till date and remains one of his most anticipated movies after the consecutive success of Ram-Leela and Bajirao-Mastani. Budgeted at 190 crores, the film has been in talk for all the wrong reasons. Detractors and groups such as Karni Sena suggest that Rani Padmini has been disrespected by Mr Bhansali because she is reportedly portrayed to be romantically involved with Muslim invader Alauddin Khilji. But, the story has been affirmed as baseless by Mr. Bhansali. `Padmavati` has been produced by Viacom-18; the film`s release was originally planned for December 1, but has been pushed back.

Now that the certificate is soon arriving, we hope that the wait for Padmavati release is over and it arrives on silver screen!
