Bollywood in the eras of 80’s and 90’s have many prominent male superstars (Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, etc, etc) and many emerging male stars ( Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Ajay Devgn and many more…) who were the basically the crowd pullers for every movie. However, during the late 1980’s Bollywood went to a dark phase because of the degradation in the quality of movies shown in terms of content, songs, and depiction of women. But it was the early 90’s that Bollywood began to revive itself with good content which again attracted the family audiences. Also, the era of 90’s along with the three Khans, (Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir) saw the birth of second female superstar (first being Sridevi) Madhuri Dixit, the women who with her charm in acting and elegance in dancing made millions of heart to beat “Dhak Dhak”

The journey of Madhuri Dixit from a Dancing Diva to a Female Superstar is truly phenomenal. Her debut movie Abodh was a big disaster in spite of being helmed by a big banner of Rajshri Production. Thereafter went a series of flops until Tezaab happened in the year 1988. Tezaab changed Madhuri’s career overnight. Her innocent smile, her amazing looks, her beautiful dancing and effortless acting gave her the limelight of a star in Bollywood.

Tezaab became a Blockbuster and “Ek Do Teen” became a national party anthem. After Tezaab films Madhuri went onto feature in superhit movies like Dayavan, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, and Kishen Kanhaiya. All these movies added to her stardom and she started to live a life of a superstar. More blockbuster movies went to her kitty, there started a cold war between her and Sridevi, as both were at the top peak of their career, there began an alleged relationship between her and Sanjay Dutt.  Madhuri Dixit became the talk of the town….

One thing with Madhuri Dixit was that she effortlessly got into the skin of the characters she portrayed. Whether playing a girl next door or raising the temperatures with the song “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai” or being a girl who is blindly in love in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Madhuri just nailed every character she played.

With the increase in fame and popularity, Madhuri went on to become the highest paid Bollywood actor. Yes, she was paid 50 Lakhs per movie, which was even more than her contemporary superstar Sridevi and also male superstars like Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Amitabh Bachchan. And then, the legendary movie happened under Rajshree production. Yes, you all guessed it right…. “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun” released in the year 1994 and went on to become the highest-grossing Bollywood movie worldwide for a decade or so.  Yes, this movie was a platform for Salman Khan to launch himself as the next generation superstar but with this movie, Madhuri Dixit became the biggest superstar of Bollywood during that period. You all will be thrilled to know that Madhuri Dixit was paid a whopping amount of 2.7 Crores for Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Salman Khan was not even paid 25 Lakhs. This showed the stardom of Madhuri Dixit during the 1990’s.

Madhuri Dixit continued to rule the industry for few more years with movies like Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Raja, and Yarana until she decided to tie the knot with American NRI Dr. Sriram Nene in 1999. Millions of hearts shattered and billions of fans went into depression as their Dhak Dhak girl got married.  However, even after marriage, Madhuri went onto continuing her film career with movies like Pukaar, Aarzoo Lajja, and Devdas. But this time around, her choice of roles were matured and content is driven rather than being the bubbly Madhuri Dixit of the early 90’s. She won the Filmfare award for the best actor in the supporting role for Devdas, after which she decided to take a break from the industry to bring up her children Arin and Ryan.

The one word which defined Madhuri was elegance. She was elegant both in her personal as well as professional life. Madhuri had her “Ada” in her personality which no other female actor even today has ever managed to achieve. It was probably inborn, that’s the reason why her Ada was so natural and fluent.

After 5 long years of Devdas, Madhuri Dixit came back to the big screen with a dance movie “Aaja Nachle”. The movie was under Yash Raj Banner and had loads of expectation as it was a comeback movie for her. Sadly though, the movie failed to impress the audience. However, Madhuri went on to feature as a judge in innumerable dance reality shows which kept her in limelight. 7 years later she tried to have yet another comeback in big screen with movies like Dedh Ishqiya and Gulaab Gang. Even though the movie impressed the critics, it failed to succeed in Box Office. However, a year before her item song in the movie “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” along with Ranbir Kapoor was the talk of the town as it went to become a blockbuster song and Madhuri was back with her elegant Ada of dancing.

In the following years, Madhuri went on to feature in reality shows and award shows but didn’t feature in a fully-fledged movie. However, this year she is returning back to the big screen with Total Dhamaal opposite Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn. She recently made her debut in Marathi movie Bucket List which is getting heaps of praises both from the audience as well as critics.

As Madhuri Dixit turns 51 today, the whole team of Fresh Box Office wishes her a very happy and prosperous birthday and wishes that she continues to mesmerize the audience with her elegant ADA in acting as well as dancing.
