Jackie Shroff is the personification of the words `cool` and ‘swag’. Being impenitently who he is, it is hard for someone like him to survive in a superficial industry such as Bollywood. He is one of those actors who is known for his nonchalant self but has a lot more inside.
Jackie Shroff was born to Jai Krishan Kakubhai Shroff and Amrita Kakulal (“Rita”) Shroff in Udgir, Bombay State, India. His father came from a Gujarati Hindu family of merchants and traders and his mother was an Uyghur from Kazakhstan. Shroff’s parents met each other when both of them were teenagers and then fell in love after which they got married. Together they lived in a 30 ft by 30 ft room in a chawl in the Teen Batti area of Malabar Hill, Mumbai.
Due to lack of money, Shroff dropped out of school when he was in 11th standard. After which he started working as a travel agent in a local company called "Trade Wings" near Jehangir art gallery. During this, he was spotted by an advertising agency accountant who asked him if he would be interested in modelling. The next day, Shroff went to that advertising agency for the photo shoot during his lunchtime. In the year 1982, he made his acting debut in Dev Anand`s movie ‘Swami Dada’ and after a year, Subhash Ghai cast him in the lead role for the movie ‘Hero’ where he was paired with Meenakshi Seshadri. The film was one of the biggest successes of the year and this made him continue working in Subhash Ghai movies, irrespective of any role that was offered. In 1986, Shroff featured in the movie ‘Karma’ which became the highest-grossing film of the year. In the era of 90s, he was a part of some of the most successful films such as Saudagar, Angaar, Gardish, Khalnayak, 1942: A Love Story, Rangeela, Agnisakshi and Border.
Jackie’s Personal Life-
Shroff married his girlfriend Ayesha Dutt who was a model and later became a film producer. Both of them now run a media company, Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited, and jointly owned 10% shares in Sony TV from its conception to 2012, when they sold their stakes. They have a son, Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff and a daughter, Krishna.
There is a reason why Jackie Shroff ruled the late the era of 80s and 90s. He had that effortless charisma which clearly he still owns.
