Shah Rukh Khan is an actor which probably doesn`t need any introduction. The man with his sheer power of hard work and dedication has ruled the world of cinema for nearly 3 decades now. People get swooned over when Shah Rukh Khan with his charming and charismatic personality waves his hands towards the infinite crowd. Such is the fan following of King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan.

However, reaching this level of superstardom for Shah Rukh Khan was not easy at all. At the time, he made his Bollywood debut with the movie Deewana in 1992, no one hailing from Bollywood had probably given a thought that this lean and this guy with average looks will play long innings in the cinematic world and will someday become the second richest actor of the world. Shah Rukh, as everybody knows did not have a filmly background as well. So it was all Shah Rukh Khan`s will to achieve stardom which made him super successful in Bollywood. This journey was more challenging as he did not have the support of his parents. Shah Rukh’s father and mother had passed away before Shah Rukh could make his Bollywood debut. That’s the reason his journey to superstardom is termed as phenomenal.

Before marking his name in Bollywood, Shah Rukh worked in TV Serials for 3 years. He made his debut with the serial Fauji in 1988 and then went on to feature in two more serials, i.e. Circus ( 1989-90) and Doosra Keval (1989). Shah Rukh then got the luckiest call ever from Hema Malini ( which he first ignored as a prank call) to feature in a lead role for his debut Bollywood movie Dil Aashna Hai (1992). But due to delay in release for some production related issues, Deewana (1992) went on to be his debut Bollywood film. And rest is history……

Since then Shah Rukh Khan has featured in over 75 Bollywood movies, hundreds of award show, thousands of product launches, infinite ad commercials and of course in some of the rich and fat Indian Weddings( as a performer). In fact, when one of his most anticipated and expensive movie Ra. One tanked at Box Office, Shah Rukh firmly admitted that he was bankrupt. Thereby, he had no shame to dance in big weddings and earn money to bring his bank balance back.

With the chocolate boy looks and the innate power to beautifully romance on screen, Shah Rukh Khan became the King of romance in Bollywood. The iconic role of Raj in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) made him the heartthrob of millions of girls who wanted to get married to him. He brilliantly displayed his talent in negative roles in movies like Darr, Baazigar, and Anjam. Suddenly Bollywood became aware of the young, dynamic and multi-talented Shah Rukh Khan. He began to get more good movies under big banners and there began his journey to become super rich. Since the late 90’s to the late 2000’s we saw some memorable and iconic movies of SRK like Dil Se, Pardes, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Baadshah( the movie from which he was named the Baadshah of Bollywood), Main Hoon Na, Swades, Devdas, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer Zaara, Don, Chak De India, Om Shanti Om, Ran Ne Bana Di Jodi and plenty more. He started to feature as host and performer in award show and other functions and got the tag of the best entertainer in a show. He purchased an IPL team (Kolkata Knight Riders) which later on won the trophy 2 times. He started his own production House with the name of Red Chillies Production, which currently makes the best VFX for movies in India. All these factors added to the cause of him being the second richest actor in the world.

However, Shah Rukh Khan’s recent Bollywood graph has sadly taken a downline. While some of his films have tanked at Box Office, the few which emerged as Box Office Success have been severely criticised with negative reviews. In fact, some of his highest grossing movies which have released after 2008 have actually got a flop verdict. ( Ra. One, Fan, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Dilwale). But still, Shah Rukh Khan is the King Khan of Bollywood and is expected to return with a bang with his upcoming movies which includes Zero, Salute and Don 3.

After having discussed a lot about the stardom and success of Bollywood, let us look at some of the highest grossing movies of Shah Rukh Khan in his career:-

Chennai Express, 229 Crores in India, over 400 Crores Worldwide, Verdict-  All Time Blockbuster:

Chennai Express was a typical Rohit Shetty movie which included all the elements of comedy, action, dance, drama, emotion, and romance to term a pure masala entertaining picture. However, this was the first time Rohit Shetty collaborated with superstar Shah Rukh Khan and released on an independence day weekend which all added to the factor of being the most successful movie of Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty till date. But not to forget the hilarious role of Deepika Padukone( the female lead of the movie) which was also one of the main factors of the super success of Chennai Express.  Chennai Express became the first film of SRK, Deepika, and Rohit Shetty to enter to the 200 Crore Club at Domestic Box Office Collection.

Dilwale, 148 Crores in India, over 400 Crores Worldwide, Verdict- Average Hit in India and Blockbuster Worldwide:

A lot was expected from the movie Dilwale, the second collaboration of Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty. It was one of the most anticipated movies of 2015 as it had Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles, the most loved on-screen couple of Bollywood. Dilwale was the comeback movie of Kajol after 5 years of break people were waiting eagerly for its release. ( Also to mention- Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon were the second lead of the movie). But the movie had to face a clash with the magnum opus Bajirao Mastani which led to its downfall. After having a slow start, eventually, Bajirao Mastani was preferred than Dilwale by the audience and not only it became a super hit movie but also grossed more than Dilwale in India. Thus Dilwale went on to be an average grosser in the Domestic collection. But due to the immense star power of Srk in overseas, Dilwale was a blockbuster in the overseas collection.

Happy New Year, 202 Crores in India, 385 Crores in Worldwide, Verdict - Superhit:

Happy New Year was the third collaboration of Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan after giving Blockbuster movies like Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Na. The movie released a year after Chennai Express and had the same lead pair of SRK and Deepika Padukone. The movie was themed on the heist and had stars like Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan in pivotal roles. Despite being severely ridiculed by critics, the movie was the superhit and went on to become the second movie of Srk and Deepika to gross over 200 Crores in Indian Box Office Collection.

Raees, 139 Crores in India, over 250 Crores Worldwide, Verdict - Superhit:

Despite much delays in release and clashing with the film of another superstar Hrithik Roshan Kaabil, Raees did a good job at Box Office both in India and worldwide. The SRK and Mahira Khan starrer entertained the audience with the touch of a badass movie essence of the 70’s and 80’s and collected over 135 Crores in India.

My Name is Khan, 75 Crores in India, 207 Crores Worldwide, Verdict- Hit in India, Blockbuster in Overseas:

My Name is Khan became the first movie of SRK to gross over 200 Crores Worldwide. Karan Johar went from his comfort zone to direct the much critically appreciated movie of My Name is Khan which was based on the treatment of people of Islam fraternity in America, post the 9/11 attacks. The movie had SRK and Kajol in lead after a span of 8 years and thus went on to become a blockbuster in overseas.
