Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan is an actress and Indian politician. She is from Samajwadi Party and is the Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. The actress did some remarkable movies like Fiza (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...(2001) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). She is considered as one of the most talented and versatile actresses of all times. Jaya earned a total of 9 Filmfare which includes 3 for Best Actress. Later, in 2007 she was awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992. She was born on 9 April 1948 in Jabalpur to Indira Bhaduri and Taroon Kumar Bhaduri. She belongs to a typical Bengali family. Her father was a writer, journalist and stage artist.
Jaya Bachchan went to St. Joseph`s Convent Sr. Sec. School, Bhopal for her schooling. As a student, she was very intelligent and was the head girl of her school. During the 1966 Republic day celebration, the actress was awarded the Best All-India N.C.C. Cadet Award. She started her career at the age of 15 with small roles in Satyajit Ray`s Bengali film, Mahanagar. The actress then decided to join Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. she passed FTII with flying colors and a gold medal. The actress also played the role Guddi in Hrishikesh Mukherjee film, Guddi. The movie was a hit and she soon moved to Mumbai. After that, she did movies like Uphaar (1971), Piya Ka Ghar (1972), Parichay (1972), Koshish (1972) and Bawarchi (1972).
She married Amitabh Bachchan on 3 June 1973. The couple was soon gifted with two children, Abhishek and Shweta. Shweta was born while both of them were working for the film ‘Sholay’. Following this, she took a break from the industry and focused on raising her children.
