One of the much-anticipated movies of this year starring Ajay Devgn in lead, Raid released in theatres yesterday. The movie which created all the buzz since last month for its powerpack trailer, good star cast, and beautiful songs, opened with 3400 Screens yesterday.

Raid, even though has a strong star cast of Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla, and Ileana D`cruz, was mostly depending on word of mouth for its collection as its more of a content-driven movie rather than being a total commercial masala flick. However, with good critic as well as audience review, Raid has done exceptionally well in its first day, collecting 10.04 Crores at its first day Box Office Collection.

With this, Raid becomes the third highest opening for a Bollywood movie and is just behind Padmaavat(19 Crores) and Pad Man (10.36 Crores) and is above Sonu Ke Titu ki Sweety (6.42 Crores) and Pari (4.36Crores). The movie which had a below average occupancy in the morning shows showed rapid growth in the evening and the night shows.

Raid is story revolving around the real-life incidents of the 1980’s where the income tax department successfully executed high profile raids. In this movie, Ajay Devgn is playing the role of the income Tax officer Amay Patnaik who has been transferred 49 times because of his honesty, yet wants to be honest and faithful in his service and thus raids the house of the corrupt Saurabh Shukla. With good reviews as well as first day Box office collection Raid is expected to have a great jump in the weekend with the collection of nearly 40 Crores.
