Bollywood has been witnessing this trend of making sequels and prequels, turning successful films into a franchise. And why wouldn’t they? These movies have raked in big bucks at the box office. We take a look at some of the most successful movie franchises.

Don –

Stepping into Big B’s shoes is no mean feat! And SRK was pretty hesitant about playing the big role in a remake of this classic movie. However, with Farhan Akhtar’s direction and King Khan’s acting prowess, the movie earned 100 crores at the BO and also led to a sequel. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him donning the ‘Don’ avatar.

Dhoom –

The movie was a slash hit when it arrived. Plus, it gave a big push to Abhishek Bacchhan’s career. Also, the first film in the franchise gave John Abraham a great impetus. The same thing happened with Hrithik Roshan in the second installment of the film. The third one might not have been praised much, but it did manage to cross 100 Crores.

Golmaal –

This was not meant to be a remake of the 1980s Amol Palekar classic. But with Rohit Shetty’s comic angle, the camaraderie between the actors, this multi-starrer film managed to impress the audience. The film has had 4 installment since and keeps the BO abuzz with money.

Krrish –

It was during the making of Koi Mil Gaya that Rakesh Roshan thought of bringing India its own flying, in costume super hero. The franchise has seen 3 movies so far and despite criticism for its recent installment, it keeps soaring high at the box office.

This Bipasha Basu horror thriller had everything good movie needs – romance, suspense, a scary ghost, amazing songs and more. That is why the Bhatts thought of going ahead with three more films. However, except Raaz 2, the others couldn’t entertain the audience. Yet it remains the talking point.

Housefull –

Sajid Khan’s movies are touted to be no-brainers. While the first two films did well at the box office, the recent flick was not appreciated by the audience. However, it did manage to earn more than 100 crores at the Box Office.

More such sequels of movies are expected to come. As per reports, work has already begun on Don 3 which might star Deepika Padukone as SRK’s lead. Anees Bazmee’s superhit comedy “No Entry” might come back on screen with Arjun Kapoor teaming up with his chachu Anil Kapoor. The super success of Fukrey Returns has provided more enthusiasm to the makers to create spin-offs of the main characters. Plus, we have Tiger Shroff in Student of the Year 2.
