From Artistes to Entrepreneurs: Nine Bollywood Actors who are High-flying Business Magnates

A majority of the listed actors have their own production houses and fitness centers, while three of them own three IPL teams.

There is a misconception that art, creativity, and business are mutually exclusive of each other and an artist can never be a good businessman.

However, we have examples of actors who are blessed with good acting skills and better business acumen. After making their mark on the silver screen, they have proved their worth in the contemporary business world. Apart from being awesome entertainers, they proved to be even better entrepreneurs.

Here is the list:

Shahrukh Khan

With a net worth of over $750 million, Shahrukh Khan is the second richest actor in the world! He owns the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winner Kolkata Knight Riders along with Jay Mehta and Juhi Chawla. He owns Red Chillies Entertainment, an animation and special effects production house. He also owns a stake in KidZania, a global chain of family recreational centers.

Suneil Shetty

Suneil Shetty owns several numbers of gyms and health centers across the country. He is also the owner of a fine-dining restaurant chain and a production house named Popcorn Entertainment that has bankrolled movies including Bhagam Bhag, Loot, EMI, Mission Istanbul, and Khel. He owns a boutique chain spread operating across Mumbai called Mischief. He also owns a real estate company named S2 Realty.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Bollywood actor and winner of Big Brother title, Shilpa Shetty Kundra is a partner of a spa chain operating across Mumbai named IOSIS. She has also launched her own range of perfume and a fitness DVD. After her marriage to Indian business magnate Raj Kundra, she and her husband owned a substantial stake in the maiden IPL winner Rajasthan Royals.

Sushmita Sen

Winner of Miss Universe 1994 pageant Sushmita Sen launched her maiden company named Sensazione in 2006. She is aiming to open a chain of spas, lounges, and hotels under the company. She is the owner of a jewelry store in Dubai. She owns a production house named Tantra Entertainment and looks to open a lifestyle zone in Kolkata which will have a restaurant, a nightclub, and a cigar lounge.

Preity Zinta

After gaining fame and fortune in acting, Preity Zinta forayed into entrepreneurship by acquiring ownership rights of IPL team Kings XI Punjab in 2008, along with her then beau Ness Wadia. In 2011, she founded her production company PZNZ Media under which she bankrolled and starred in ‘Ishkq in Paris’, a romantic comedy released in 2013.

John Abraham

Being one of the fittest actors in Bollywood, John Abraham turned his passion for fitness into a great business opportunity by introducing JA Fitness, his own chain of gyms. He also owns a production house named JA Entertainment that gave us movies such as Vicky Donor, Madras Café, Rocky Handsome, Force 2 (co-produced) and the much-awaited movie Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran. He started his entrepreneurial journey by launching his own fashion-line named JA Clothing in 2006. He is also the winner of NorthEast United FC, an Indian professional football franchise based in Guwahati.

Twinkle Khanna

You must be aware that after her short stint in Bollywood Twinkle Khanna found her calling in writing and is a widely-read columnist and author of ‘Mrs. Funny Bones’ and ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’. But did you know that she is a successful entrepreneur? She owns an interior design label ‘White Window’ that deals in apparel and home décor and won her Elle Décor International Design Award. She is the producer of 2018 biographical dramedy movie Pad Man.

Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn founded a production house named Ajay Devgn FFilms in 2000 that bankrolled movies such as Son of Sardaar, Bol Bachchan, Singham Returns, Parched, Shivaay, and Apla Manus. He is also a part investor in Charanka Solar Plant in Gujarat that was commissioned on December 31, 2011. He is also the co-owner of the Delhi franchise of the Champions Tennis League (CTL).

Vivek Oberoi

Well, you may not see Vivek Oberoi in as many movies over the last few years as compared to the movies he acted in 2005 alone. But he has turned into an entrepreneur and is busy with his new ventures and social work. He is the owner of KARRM Infrastructure and in 2017 he made a strategic investment in Ichak Dana LLP, a food on move company.
