Swara Bhaskar Chitrapu is a Bollywood actress. The actress is well known for her supporting roles along with big stars like Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The actress has been nominated for 4 Filmfares till now and has won 2 Screen Awards. She was in some the most super hit movies like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Tanu Weds Manu, etc. Her character in the film Raanjhanaa was one of the most remarkable ones which gave her the Filmfare Awards nomination. Before this, she was nominated for Filmfare Award for her role in the commercially successful romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu. she was much appreciated by the critics as well as by the audience for the role.




She was born on 9 April 1988 in Delhi to Chitrapu Uday Bhaskar and Ira Bhaskar. Her father was Telugu and was an Indian Navy officer. Her mother was from a Bihari family and was a professor of cinema studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Swara was brought up in Delhi and did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya. She then went to Miranda House, Delhi University where she studied English literature. During her graduation, she was actress Minissha Lamba’s classmate. After that, she enrolled herself at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi for her master’s in Sociology. She was also associated with N. K. Sharma`s "Act One" theater group before she stepped in Bollywood.




The actress made shifted to Mumbai in 2008 and made her debut in Bollywood with a supporting role in the 2009 drama ‘Madholal Keep Walking’, which was a commercial failure. The major break was with the film Raanjhanaa starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in the lead roles. After that, she was appraised in her role in Tanu Weds Manu. She was also the lead actress in films Sabki Bajegi Band opposite Sumeet Vyas and Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai with Bhanu Uday.
