Nicknamed ‘The King of Comedy’, Mehmood ruled the industry for over two decades. He had an illustrious career spanning over four decades and acted in more than four hundred movies. Not resorting to slapstick humor and entertaining viewers with his creative usage of Hyderabadi-Urdu accent, Mehmood was an actor class apart from his peers. His performances in ‘Gumnaam’, ‘Padosan’, ‘Mastana’, ‘Main Sunder Hoon’, ‘Do Phool’, ‘Bombay to Goa’ are remembered even today.

Johnny Walker

Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi, popularly known as Johnny Walker, is noted for his performances as an alcoholic in many movies including ‘Pyaasa’, ‘C.I.D’, `Aar-Paar’, ‘Baazi’, ‘Mr. & Mrs. 55’. His talent was spotted by Balraj Sahni, who later introduced the comedy genius to Guru Dutt. Despite being a teetotaler, he cleared his first screen test as a drunkard and impressed everyone with his acting talent. And the rest is history.

Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffry, popularly known as Jagdeep, started his career as a child artiste in B R Chopra’s ‘Afsana’. He got his big break in 1975 movie ‘Sholay’ as Soorma Bhopali that earned him name and fame and opened the floodgates in the Hindi cinema industry for him.

Remember the Angrez zamane ka Jailer in the movie ‘Sholay’ who was fooled by Jai and Veeru and coerced to arrange their escape? Govardhan Thakurdas Jethanand Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, is one of the funniest actors around in the industry till today. He is also noted for his performances in ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Ghar’, ‘Muddat’, ‘Choti Si Baat’, ‘Bawarchi’, among several others.

Kader Khan

Kader Khan debuted in 1973 movie ‘Daag’ in a relatively serious character of a prosecuting attorney. In a career spanning over three decades and acting in more than 300 movies, he played several comic characters and delighted audience with his wit, comic timing and straight-faced delivery. His funniest form can be seen in the movies with Govinda and the duo delivered several hits including ‘Dulhe Raja’, ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Joru Ka Ghulam’ and ‘Chalo Ishq Ladaaye’.

Be it Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in ‘Hera Pheri’, Manilal in ‘Awaara Pagal Dewaana’, or Kishan in ‘Hulchul’, his characters are the best thing that could’ve happened to comedy lovers. His hysterical expressions, hilarious antics, and motormouth act made him a household name. He debuted in the 1985 movie ‘Arjun’ and went on to act in nearly 200 movies in a career span of 33 years. Some of his best comic performances include ‘Hungama’, ‘Deewane Huye Paagal’, ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’, ‘Bhagam Bhag’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Oye Lucky! Jaspal Bhatti

Jaspal Bhatti started his acting career with a low budget TV series ‘Flop Show’ that was bankrolled by his wife and had a run of just 10 episodes. However, the series is well remembered even today. After the show, he went on deliver solid performances in many successful movies including `Aa Ab Laut Chalen`, `Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe`, `Tujhe Meri Kasam` and `Fanaa`.

Before foraying into films, John Prakash Rao Janumala, popularly known as Johnny Lever, began his journey as a stand-up comedian in an orchestra. His talent and potential were spotted by late Sunil Dutt, who offered him ‘Dard Ka Rishta’. After that, he went on to act in over 50 films in his career spanning 38 years. He is acclaimed for his performances in `Raja Hindustani`, `Deewana Mastana`, `Dulhe Raja` and `Love Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega`.
