The movie stars Ajay Devgn, Sayyeshaa Saigal, Abigail Eames and Erika Kaar in lead roles. Released on 28th October of 2016, the movie was released along with Dharma Production’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. On its 1st day, the Ajay Devgn starrer managed to collect 10.24 crore but could not cross its opponent at the box office. By its 31st day collection, Shivaay has entered the 100 crore club with a collection of 100.05 crores. Shivaay is the 3rd movie of Ajay Devgn that has crossed 100 crore mark despite clashing with another Bollywood movie.

9.Kapoor & Sons:

With an eminent cast of Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, Kapoor & Sons released on 18th March 2016. Made with a budget of 35 crores, the movie opened on a good note. But with a universal critical acclaim, the movie scored 44 crores by 1st week. Comparing to Indian box office collection, the movie did well at the worldwide box office. It collected 53 crores in the 1st weekend whereas 89 crores by 1st week. Kapoor & Sons comes at the 9th position with a lifetime collection of 152 crores.


Starring Shah Rukh Khan in a double role, the movie was released in the theatres on 15th April of 2016. Produced under Yash Raj Films Production House, the movie was made with a budget of 85 crores. At the Indian Box office, 19 crores came as its opening day collection. It did well at the box office in the 1st week of release collecting over 50 crores. But by the second week, it reduced to 11 crores which eventually fell to 1 cr by the 3rd week. With a lifetime collection of 188 cr as the worldwide collection, Fan comes at the 8th position of the list.

7.Housefull 3:

As the 3rd installment of the Housefull franchise, the movie started its journey at the box office from 3rd June of 2016. The movie presents Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, and Lisa Haydon in the lead roles. By the opening weekend, it has already crossed the 100 crore club across the globe. It became the highest grossing movie beating Shahrukh Khan’s Fan and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi. With a lifetime collection of 195 crores, Housefull 3 comes at the 7th position of the list.


With a collection of 12 crores, the Akshay Kumar starrer started its journey at the box office. With a positive response worldwide, Airlift did an excellent business until the 7th week of its release. It was the 1st movie of 2016 to enter 100 crore club. The movie collected 122 crores in India in its lifetime. Taking the worldwide collection of 231 crores into count, Airlift makes to the 6th position on the list.

5.M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story:

The biographical movie based on the life story of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Kiara Advani, and Disha Patani in lead. The movie collected an excellent number of 20 crores as its 1st-day opening collection. The movie has received good reviews from the critics. By the end of the 1st week, it collected 84 crores and became one of the most popular movies of the year. With a worldwide collection of 216 crores, the movie comes to the list at 5th position.


The movie Rustom stars Akshay Kumar and Ileana D`Cruz in lead roles. With a collection of 14 crores, it started its journey at the box office. It became the fastest growing movie of 2016 by reaching 100 cr club within just 10 days time period. The movie holds a lot of records for the year 2016 such as the fastest grossing movie, highest opener, highest weekend collector. The movie continued to stay steady at the box office for a long time. With a collection of 216 crores, it comes to the list at 4th position.

3.Ae Dil Hai Mushkil:

Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Fawad Khan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles, this Karan Johar directorial was released on 28th October of 2016. The movie started its journey with the collection of 13 crores. It reached the 100 crore club by the 2nd week. Released along with Ajay Devgn starrer, the movie went past Shivaay by a long distance at the Box Office. The movie collected 89 crores by its 1st weekend at the worldwide box office. With lifetime gross collection of 237 crores, it comes at the 3rd position of this top 10 list.


The action drama stars Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. With a blockbuster opening day collection, the movie started its journey at the box office. Made with a budget of 80 crores, it was able to collect 105 crores by the 1st weekend. The rapid growth at the box office made the movie one of the highest grossing movies of the decade.


So, the cake was taken by this Aamir Khan starrer. Starring two fresh faces in the lead for the roles of Geeta and Babita Phogat played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, the biographical sports drama about the life of now celebrated wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat was released on 23rd December of 2016. It was the last highest grossing movie of the year but when it comes to number, the movie tops the list. With an excellent opening and strong audience connect leading to repeat viewing, the movie scored massively at the box office. The movie comes at the top with a collection of 2122 crores at the worldwide box office collection.
