Arijit Singh has turned out to be the maverick of Bollywood music. Probably no other artist, after Sonu Nigam and Kumar Sanu, has had such a stupendous success in such a short time.

The Beginnings

Not many know that Arijit had sung a few songs before Aashiqui 2 catapulted him to fame. One of them was the song “Phir Mohabbat” from Murder 2. The former reality show contestant has also had a good stint in Bengali music industry before moving to Bollywood.

In this edition, we let you groove to the best of Arijit Singh. Soak yourself in his scintillating voice.

Tum Hi Ho (Aashiqui 2) –

What Aashiqui did for Kumar Sanu in 1990, its second installment did for Arijit in 2013. The rise of the singer to superstardom was so rapid in the months succeeding the release of the film’s album that he was flooded with offers. One of the best romantic songs of all time, Tum Hi Ho is the first you’ll think of when we say, Arijit Singh.

Hum Mar Jayenge (Aashiqui 2) –

This love song is probably one of the best songs in recent times with extremely touching lyrics. A duet with Tulsi Kumar, Arijit’s voice could waver through low and high pitches seamlessly. This number is the perfect one for your life partner, isn’t it?

Aasan Nahi Yahan (Aashiqui 2) –

The song was not used in the film to that extent as it should have been. However, it is probably one of the most well-meaning songs exploring what it truly means to be a lover and how it transcends any form of physical attraction. No wonder all of these songs belonged to Arijit. One might have to credit music director Jeet Ganguly for the same.

Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi (Aashiqui 2) –

A song with rock music laid all over it, this song was edited out from the film. However, the listeners loved it so much that there was a special online request to add it to the film. Though that didn’t happen, the song and its video played on all music channels and added one more hit song to Arijit’s name.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Title Track) –

The pain and the anger with which he sang this song is a difficult thing to pull off. But for Arijit, this came in as no surprise. This song won him the Filmfare Award for Best Singer. When in pain, listen to this popular track. It might come off as a soothing melody to relieve your heart.

Channa Mereya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil) –

The song has its roots in the folk song of the 40s. But for this sad number, he received praise from the legendary Asha Bhosle as well. Now that is a reward very few singers get and he is one of them. A broken heart needs solace and this track provides you one.

Phir Mohabbat (Murder 2) –

Though Arijit had just one line in the song, he did make an impact. If you have ever been to any of his concerts, you’d know he never misses out on this song nor does he forget to give due credit to his guru in Bollywood – Pritam Chakraborty. Not many know that Pritam was the person who gave Arijit an opportunity to sing for his films. And we have the gem now who everyone wants.

Ilahi (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani) –

A peppy number which would make you wanna pack your bags and travel with your buddies, this song was recorded before the album of Aashiqui 2. The song also has another version sung by Mohit Chauhan. If you are traveling anywhere and if it’s a road trip, make sure to include this song on your playlist.

Raabta (Agent Vinod) –

Arijit has never left any opportunity to work with his mentor Pritam. This slow number has Arijit singing in a soft voice and has been used in a very unconventional manner in the film. Well, it’s a different matter that the use of the song in a recent film of the same name did irk Pritam. Nevertheless, the song is a popular Arijit Singh chartbuster.

Raat Bhar (Heropanti) –

Arijit’s voice suits every actor and that is why his songs have been picturized on almost all actors in the industry. This party number from Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon`s debut film also emerged as a popular number and established Arijit’s versatility.

Duaa (Shanghai) –

The film might have been forgetful for most people, but not the song. A duet which Arijit sang with Nandini Srikar, the song is a sad number but extremely soulful. It can provide you with peace but might also make you reflect. A must-have number for a night of deep thoughts!

Agar Tum Saath Ho (Tamasha) –

A song with thousands of emotions woven into it, there’s little that is left to say when your beloved departs. Arijit sang the song with none other than the maestro AR Rahman and the legendary Alka Yagnik. A super hit song, it has also won Arijit a lot of acclaim from renowned singers.

Aaj Phir (Hate Story 2) –

A sensual number and a recreation of the 1980s song by Pankaj Udhas and Anuradha Paudwal, this song catapulted Armaan Malik to fame. Arijit’s mesmerizing voice worked its magic here as well and made this song stand out in a big way than before. We know he sings party numbers too. But, there’s no competition when it comes to romantic and sensual numbers.

Mast Magan (2 States) –

A slow number from a film depicting inter-community match, the song is probably the most famous out of the album of the film. It remained on top of the music charts for a fairly long time. Missing your lover? This song might help you in a big way!

Sooraj Dooba Hai (Roy) –

The best party number which heralded the arrival of the year 2015, the song is one of the best party numbers of Arijit Singh and has since remained a favorite song for new beginnings and weekends. Just look at the playlist of any New Year’s Eve party and you would know!

Har Kisi Ko (Boss) –

A recreation of a popular Sridevi number, this one was filmed on Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in a recreated version. Arijit never forgets to put this song on his list whenever he plays live. And why wouldn’t he? In spite of being a recreated song, it is one of his best numbers.

Soch Na Sake (Airlift) –

Another soulful number, this is a song of romance, love as well as parting. No matter what one does, parting is always painful. With Arijit’s voice, this becomes even more soulful. Listen to this number when you miss your beloved.
