Priyanka Chopra, our very own desi girl, has taken the world by storm. Her quick-witted charm, her confidence and her ability to multitask (she’s a singer and an actor) make her go way ahead than where most Bollywood actresses go. I mean, how many of them can boast of a successful career in both Bollywood and Hollywood? Every time we see PeeCee on screen rubbing shoulders with international celebrities (read: the royal wedding), it makes us feel proud.

With her mettle, Priyanka Chopra proved she is not just beautiful and intelligent, but also extremely confident in her own self. Do you know she was bullied by her peers when she moved to the US to study at the age of 13?? Yes, we know how hard bullying can be! But, she proved herself to her detractors and how!!! One hell of an inspiration that is to us!!

There are so many aspects of hers that make Priyanka Chopra unconventional. We take a look at a few reasons which make her choices as well as her so damn unconventional.

Aitraaz -

The film was a romantic thriller directed by Abbas - Mastan. PeeCee played the role of Sonia Roy who was a powerful corporate woman as well as a seductress who doesn’t shy away from seducing her former lover for her sexual needs. Accepting such a role was itself a taboo and Priyanka did that in spite of knowing the risks involved. Plus, she was also not the leading lady! Priyanka was the second lead in the film starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. Imagine taking such dual risks at a time most actresses would refuse to play such roles!! Pageant winners before her like Aishwarya Rai had started with a lead role. But, PeeCee knew what she was doing. And it paid off! She won many awards including Filmfare for Best Performance in a Negative Role.

Fashion, Barfi and Mary Kom -

Her performance in all three movies required her to prepare herself and show her best. And she did that! Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion came at a time when she had suffered box office failures back-to-back. Even though PeeCee was one among three actresses - other two being Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse - she proved she can be vulnerable onscreen. She played an aspiring model who falls into the trap of glamour and popularity. Her performance won her the National Award and the Filmfare Best Actress award. For Anurag Basu’s Barfi, PeeCee had to play the role of an autistic girl in love with Ranbir’s character. Her looks, clothes and overall personality had to adhere to the role of Jhilmil. Though Priyanka was miffed at losing most of the awards to Vidya Balan for her role in Kahani, she won critical acclaim for the role. One look at her performance and you can guess how she would have prepared for the role. For playing the role of Mary Kom in Omung Kumar’s biographical film, she had to train in boxing and develop a muscular figure.  The role won her yet another Best Actress Filmfare award.

Her debut as a Singer -

Though many people believe her international single ‘In My City’ to be her debut, she debuted as a singer with Mary Kom where she sang a lullaby called “Chaoro”. However, when her single ‘In My City’ premiered at the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football on September 13, 2012, where she had collaborated with Will.I.Am, all of us did feel real proud. And once the video came out, it played in almost every music channel the world over. Later on, she also collaborated with international pop sensation Pitbull for another single “Exotic” which debuted at #16 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic songs. She also sang a much successful cover of  Bonnie Raitt`s "I Can`t Make You Love Me" which peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronics chart. Not many know that she comes from a family of singers and takes inspiration from her father Dr. Ashok Chopra. She was also the part of the EDM song “Erase” where she was a featured artist along with The Chainsmokers. Did you know that one of her most popular songs “Tinka Tinka” which features her as a singer was actually offered to her to sing?? She refused saying she wanted to focus on her acting career and the song went to Alisha Chinai.

Television Debut -

Priyanka had a successful TV stint in India as well. She hosted the third season of the reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi where she did her own stunts and was also strict with the contestants. Now, that was fierce!! She earned an Indian Telly Award for the same as well. But, her debut in Hollywood as the leading lady Alex Parrish in ABC’s Quantico was a big milestone in her career. She became the first South Asian to become the leading lady in an American network drama series. Her performance as an FBI agent wrongly accused of terrorism won her the People`s Choice Award for "Favourite Actress In A New TV Series" making her the first South Asian actress to win a People’s Choice Award. PeeCee won another People`s Choice Award for Favourite Dramatic TV Actress the following year.

Priyanka Chopra, the Producer -

Like Anushka Sharma, Priyanka ventured into production as well with her production company Purple Pebble Pictures. Her first film as a producer was the Marathi film Ventilator, a comedy-drama, that won her three awards at the 64th National Film Awards - Best Director for Mapuskar, Best Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. Her upcoming project as a producer is ‘Kay Re Rascalaa’. Let’s see what else we can get from our very own desi girl with her desi swag!!

With so many things under her kitty, looks like the former Miss World is up for world domination. Well, we sure would want her to do the same! She has the guts, she has the power and she has everything that is needed to be the Queen!! PeeCee had earlier said in an interview, “I take risks. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. And that’s okay.” No wonder it is her risk-taking ability which is taking her places.
